YOM H'SHOAH, 2015

Yom’H’shoah.

Watching students at Hunter College sing The Star-Spangeled Banner and Hatikvah was very moving – a “victory over the Nazis!”.

Also powerful was the survivor at Hillel, talking about what he witnessed. One can still learn new facts. From him, I discovered that the Hungarians were quite anti-Semitic early on from 1941, not only from 1944. It is so complicated, there are so many details to learn, and remember to keep the true scope of the story alive.

The audience, of college students listened silently.

Then went to 5th Ave Synagogue, and met a liberator. As an 18 year old Jewish soldier, who helped liberate a camp in Austria near Mauthaussen.

The Holocaust is alive and well – it won’t be forgotten! Everywhere I went there were exhibitions, songs, survivors, memories.

A victory over the Nazis!
