Mayor Lueger of Vienna and Hitler
When Hitler was a young man, he moved to Vienna, and was an artist.
At that time there was a Mayor Lueger in Vienna, who was extremely popular.
Lueger said, "I decide who is a Jew." Meaning he had his favorites from whom he
could move on.
Hitler learned from him, to use politics to get ahead.
The Street Lueger in front of the University, finally had its name changed, because
there was an outcry there shouldn't be that name, in front of an institution fo Truth.
When I was invited to a reception for survivors and liberators of Mauthaussen,
it was in the magnificent Citi Hall, but in front of a huge statute of Lueger. I thought that
strange.
Also in Vienna there is a huge statue of Lueger standing tall, very impressive
surrounded by flowers. And FINALLY - a debate started whether or not to
tear it down. Some people think it should remain to be a reminder.
There are others signs of Nazis in Vienna, or former members. There is
VOn Karajan St. in front of the COncdert Hall. Karajan used Nazism to get ahead.
When the great conductor Bruno Walter, Jewish, Left Vienna, Karajan, aslo a great
conduct used the opening to get ahead.
So -- what is the point of this -- DYLAN ROOF, grew up in an atmosphere, where
the COnfederate Flag, and all, it stood for was on top of his State Capital. Also, there was a tendencey to "romanticize" the Civil War in that great American Film -- Gone With The Wind.
And, he was impressed by the Trayvon Martin killing in Fl. by a white community guard.
True, Dylan Roof ahd dropped out of school early, took drugs, and possibly affected by the Presence of the Flag, which he photographed himself in, and the Martin killing.
He also seemed to use drugs.
I heard the Head of the NAACP talk on TV. He said that the community should have been more sensitive to things like the photos of Roof wrapped in the American flag, for example.
On top of it all Roof seemed liked he had a weakness - he didn't know right from wrong.
Perhaps there is a way to summon a community to be aware of people in such trouble.
